I Like Liza Minnelli, Civility, and Bananas

Cassandra Dahnke of the Institute for Civility in Government Takes Questions in the Green Room

Cassandra Dahnke is a co-founder of the Institute for Civility in Government, based in Houston, Texas. Part of her mission is to work with politically diverse groups of people—from far left to far right—and help them find a set of tools with which to communicate across political divides. Before participating in a panel discussion of civility in American life, Danhke took questions in the green room.

Q:

Is Washington more polarized today than in 1997?

A:

My perception is that it is.

Q:

What is your favorite city?

A:

I have too many.

Q:

What is the most uncivil thing you’ve said in the past month?

A:

I wouldn’t want to repeat it.

Q:

What’s the most unfair thing that’s said about Texas?

A:

I’m not sure that there’s anything unfair said about Texas.

Q:

Who’s the most uncivil member of Congress?

A:

I’m sure it’s a contest.

Q:

What did you have for breakfast today?

A:

A banana.

Q:

What’s the best thing about flying?

A:

It gets you there.

Q:

Who is your favorite singer?

A:

Too many. But let’s say Liza Minnelli.

Q:

Who is your favorite Presbyterian movie star?

A:

Jimmy Stewart was good. Mr. Rogers was good.

Q:

What is your most inexcusable habit?

A:

I’m driven. It’s hard to live with.
